Torus

Meticulously handcrafted by Sean Staniforth, this Torus is amongst Sean's most ambitious pieces to date, celebrating his enduring commitment to precision, form and craftsmanship across both the mediums of timber and glass, brought to life through the process of wood turning.

Constructed from 2,160 individual segments of American Black Walnut & American Rock Maple, the Torus traces a perfect, unbroken loop across its entire form, whilst the hand polished surface reflects light from every angle. 

The Torus is showcased at a 15 degree angle, cradled between two 4mm panes of glass, which saw Sean experiment for the first time with a new medium, glass, providing a 'floating' effect whilst ensuring transparency and visibility from all angles of the piece.

The figured New Guinea Rosewood base features two grooves, which are precision cut, securing the glass in place with a snug piston fit, allowing for the removal of the panes for ease of transportation and storage.

Accompanying the Torus is a custom made box protecting the Torus, glass panes and base during travel between locations whilst providing secure storage when needed.
